So You Want to Buy a Jogging Stroller - Read This First

If you are considering a jogging stroller you should spend the time to research before you buy. If you do a search for review jogging stroller you will find the information you need to make an informed decision. Before you run out to a local strollers store or your favorite online strollers store and buy that top of the line expensive jogging stroller or the cheap off the shelf model there are some questions you need to answer about how it will be used and what you really need.

If you are an avid runner or jogger and you hit the trail, path or street everyday, your needs will be different than the person who jogs a couple times a week. While they may look essentially the same there are some very distinct differences between these three wheel jogging strollers.

Let's talk about the jogging stroller wheel. There are three standard wheel sizes. 12", 16", and 20". Generally the larger the wheel size, the smoother the ride on rougher terrain will be. There are two types of front ends on these jogging strollers. There are swivel wheel and fixed wheel strollers. A true running stroller has a fixed front wheel. If you are that avid runner or jogger this is the type you should be looking at.

There are many swivel strollers on the market that claim they are the ultimate all purpose stroller. This is not exactly accurate. While the swivel wheel jogging strollers do have the ability to lock the front wheel the results are not the same as with true fixed wheel jogging strollers. The swivel strollers have a smaller front wheel, typically 12" which does not offer the same performance off road as a fixed wheel stroller with 16" or 20" wheels.

If you are an occasional jogger or you need to have only one stroller for multipurpose use then the swivel stroller would be an excellent choice. Fixed wheel strollers while very good for their intended purpose, running, are not very good to use for a trip to the grocery store or mall. The fixed wheel that provides a stable ride while on the trails makes sharp turns or maneuvering in tight places very difficult. Most avid runners will have two strollers, one for running the trails and one for running around the mall.

After you decide which style jogging stroller will best fit your lifestyle, its time to look at the other factors. Jogging stroller come in steel frame or aluminum frame and have either steel spoke wheels, aluminum wheels or polymer wheels. There are advantages and disadvantages for all. Aluminum and polymer are typically lighter than their steel counterparts and don't rust. Steel may be stronger but it is heavier and needs to be maintained better to prevent rust. Proper jogging stroller care will be required for any jogging stroller to keep it in good working order. It is a fact that a baby stroller will get more use than any other baby item you buy. The good news is that it will outlast your baby's need to be in a stroller if properly maintained.

The last real consideration for getting the right jogging stroller is making sure the model you choose will provide a safe comfortable ride for your child while you share something that you love to do. Make sure the jogging stroller you choose has a comfortable padded seat that reclines, padded five point safety harness, wrist tether and parking brakes.

To sum up this article, determine what your need is, do the research to make sure the model jogging stroller you choose meets those needs and enjoy the quality time you will be able to spend with your child doing something you love.
